The Power of Porn

28 10 2009

cm519porn-postersDo have any idea how much porn has changed the world?  What kind of control and effect it has had on the modern world, consumer products and a million other things?

What really decided who won between Betamax and VHS?  Why did Blue Ray win that contest?  Why do all DVD players have a multi-angle viewing button?  Why can we send and receive pictures on our phones? Why is suddenly so important to have 3G phones?  Camcorders… digital cameras, payper view, satellite and cable tv, the internet.. the list goes on and on.

Porn.. porn (and sex) is one of the leading driving forces behind a lot of technological advances.  Now this won’t come as much of a surprise to some people, but I think a lot of people will be at least a little surprised.

Betavhs2Did you know that the reason VHS became the primary technology was NOT actually because Sony wouldn’t let anyone else use the technology.  It was due to the porn industry choosing VHS as the platform on which to produce their films because it was cheaper for them to produce.. and suddenly.. loe all kinds of people had a VHS player (why buy the expensive one that won’t play your sexy films on it??)

Don’t believe me?  Do you own a DVD player?  Go check the remote.  Does it have ‘cha Read the rest of this entry »

Rid Yourself of the Beast (part 2)

17 05 2009

Aaaaaand … we’re back

So to recap, I went into the pro’s and cons of  shaving and waxing.  On to the others…. chemical, Epilator, lazer, threading

Now Chemical hair remove has always struck me as a little hinkie, I mean you slather some hardcore paint thinner type stuff on your skin wait for it to essentially dissolves your hair and you rinse it off in the shower.   Really? There is always the superfine sandpaper route that again I have to say WTF?? You want me to sand the hair off?  I’ve heard threading can be nice, but I have absolutely  no personal experience in the area so other than I have heard good things I have nothing to add.

On to epilating, technically any form of ripping the hairs out (waxing, tweezing, epilator, etc) is epilating, but it’s more common for people to refer to epilating as using a little epilating machine.  Now back in the day when the things first came out (remember that twisting wire that spun around a twisted metal rod? If you don’t… yes it’s as bad as you’re imagining) they sucked and where the 7th layer of evil.  All skin pinching and torturous, good times.

A couple years back a friend mentioned they had new ones now that didn’t blow ass, and cost less than a single waxing.  Well I’m cheap as hell, so sign me up!

I have to start out with, DO NOT START WITH EPILATORS!  If you have been waxing for a while and are pretty comfi with that then it’s great.  It takes a little longer and is a little more uncomfortable than waxing, but the results are generally the same.  I just watch a little TV, and get my epilate on.   That said I can’t do all the places myself, some hard to reach spots and a few Read the rest of this entry »

JAZZ Bush!!!

16 05 2009

Remember that movie bring it on?  With the choreographer and his jazz hands?  heh , ok I just spent way too long looking for a clip.. forget it.. if you don’t know.. tough 😛

The point was a while back we were talking about ‘personal grooming’, and how a lot of people especial local here are not big on the same style as westerners.  Heh cryptic enough?

We were talking about crotch fur.  Waxing, trimming etc.  How the one waxer in Taipei tends to do a full porn star job, cleans everything up in whatever way you want.  As her clients all seem to be foreigners, we wondered if she has local clients and what they get done.  Again this sparks the convo (that comes up whenever the whole ‘grooming’ things comes up) about guys needing to trim too (and a lot of western guys do it actually) and then the whole scary lions coming at you in the locker rooms in gyms.

In change rooms here at yoga and the gym, people just cruse around starkers.  With MAD untamed bush!  Seriously, mad.  This last we were chatting about it,  I coined the ultimate term… ready?

Jazz Bush

…. you need to say it with pizazz and do the jazz hands near your crotch, for the full effect that is 😀

Moving along.  Remember that post I made about the shaving vs waxing business?  Well after several months of  ‘experimentation’, I have made some conclusions.

First the different commonly used forms of depilation/epilation (aka hair removal):

shaving, waxing (sugaring), chemical, Epilator, lazer, threading

I have tried all of the above at some time or another (plus quite a number of others.. including this very freaky sandpapering Read the rest of this entry »

Does Shaving make more hair Grow?

27 01 2009

I know that everyone thinks it’s true…. but is it reallly?  Does shaving really make more hair grow?  Does it really make the hair grow back thicker and courser?  I think it does… but has anyone proved it?  And if so.. why?  I mean really think about it… it doesn’t make any sense why the heck would cutting of hair from the outside make the hair grow back more, thicker and courser… logically it makes no real sense.

Yet waxing, epilating etc… makes less hairs grow back and the ones that do grow are thinner, softer etc.  Now that I can understand… the hairs are ripped out by the root so they would be weaker and some of them might not grow back.

So I’m thinking about this in the shower… and I decide.. what fun experiment time!!!  Warning armpit talk is a coming (this is not my fault … this is just the sort of thing that starts to happen when you have nothing to do all day long 😉 ).

So, I distinctly remember when I started shaving my armpits (when I was a teenager) and how the hair got all snaggly and rough… now I’m assuming some of that had to be because of puberty and just general body changes, but when I switched to waxing them (yes it hurt like hell, and yes it was so very worth it) the hair almost magically changed .. just like leg hair or something.

So for the next several months I’m going to epilate one side and shave the other side.. and see if it really does make them different… man if I had 3 armpits I could really do it scientific like you know …. the placebo test group.  Lucky me I can’t lol.

More armpit fuzz news to come :D.

Things that I learned today

2 11 2008

Technically yesterday, as it is past midnight.. but it’s not tomorrow till I sleep or the sun comes up.. so meh.

  1. Taiwan train schedules are just a possibility/guideline … not actual schedules
  2. Trying to sleep, when you have a race in a few hours… nigh on impossible
  3. Train and bus friends are fun
  4. Running a 1/2 marathon is easy, running a 1/2 marathon in a mountainous gorge.. with some serious uphill-ness not so easy
  5. Running 10km up a hill is HARD, and running back down it is hella hard on your knees and ankles
  6. Not making my goal of under 2hrs was crushing, especially as I could have on a flat surface this time… I’m certain… sucks
  7. Lacerations, sweaty bloody ones, that don’t hurt and you don’t even feel… BURN like hell as soon as they get hit with water…. (possibly the most painful shower I have ever had)
  8. Waxing your bikini line, when you have lacerations on your bikini line, totally beats out the pain of the shower laceration pain business
  9. Packing sucks ass

I was going to write more details… but really I don’t think it’s necessary 🙂

Oh and my race stats: Rank 301, Time 2hrs 3mins 43 secs, overall place 450, Rank in group (women 30-39) 9th
