Who’s the real Terrorist?

25 11 2010

interestingly… my sister commented on the ‘don’t touch my junk site’ about how she’d rather be felt up and molested than blown up in the sky by a terrorist.

While I respect her right to her opinion mine differs greatly.

Definition of TERRORISM

: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion

ter·ror

noun \ˈter-ər, ˈte-rər\

1
: a state of intense fear
2
a : one that inspires fear : scourgeb : a frightening aspect <the terrors of invasion>

I’d rather not be abused, mistreated and pretty much sexually assaulted when it doesn’t actually prevent anything.  If it was the only way to be sure you were safe and was totally effective sure, but it’s not.  And as someone who has been subjected to abuse in airports by TSA agents.

I’m enraged (well as much as I really can be being the mellow burger I usually am) at this current ‘attempt’ to keep us safe.  Safe from what?  What the heck are the requirements for being a TSA agent anyway?  Because as far as I can tell it’s the guys who were rejected from the police force most of the time.    Oh good Mall cops with a superiorety complex fantastic.

I’d rather be blown up than be kept safe in a way that completely denies me the right to my own body.   And that’s from someone who has never been raped, imagine how the millions of woman who have been feel.  It’s too god damn far, they have machines that detect the most minute amounts of explosive residue, bomb dogs and metal detectors.  You don’t need to give me cancer or molest me to make sure I’m not up to anything shady.  Why not use those millions of dollars for training the TSA agents properly?  Hopefully this is the straw that will break the camel’s back.

You ARE not safer due to this.  It’s garbage and people are allowing their fear, which is driven by the media and American Government,  desire for someone else to take the responsibility and hold their hand, absolutely too far.

I fly frequently, and molesting people, or taking naked radioactive scans of their bodies doesn’t make me feel safe.  Security personnel that are professional and alert, who take their job seriously and don’t abuse their power make me feel confidant.

My body is nobody’s body but mine.  I don’t give a shit who you are, even the police are not permitted to touch you in this way.   If I could I would join the legal suits.

The water thing was stupid, but this is too far.

Tourist in the GTA

5 08 2009

So I’ve been in Toronto for a few days now, and so far it’s been pretty cool.  Picture 001The train ride up from London was a riot, Timmy and I were being Captains of silly the whole time.  We arrived in TO where Ken picked us up and took us to his place, where a bunch more people from Taiwan (James, Ariel, Oz and JR) were and we had an evening of sitting about chatting and drinking.  I was very fun, but very weird at the same time.

Picture 027We went to Carabana, this Caribbean festival with a shiny parade, full of good times! Actually we just jumped the fence and joined the parade.. hoooray but I think I hurt my footsies :(.

I got a little shopping done (ok just MEC) met up with Emma, and went to a BBQ, we tried to go out to party on Sat night but it ended up being a bit of a bust, ah well.  Lunch with Emma was really nice, I really quite miss her, she is a really lovely person with great energy (even when she’s grumpy bumpy).

After lunch I walked all over just checking things out and wandered my way down to the CN tower, I took my time and ended up there are a reasonable hour to catch sunset.  In my usual fashion I made friends with people in line, in the elevator, at the snack machine… tee hee you know me!  I hung out at Picture 071the tower and got some decent pictures, then a friend picked me up at the tower (side note.. I felt so damn bad, he showed up and i got stuck in a line to get down so he ended up waiting like 20 mins for me at the base of the tower!!! ).  We went for a late dinner and drinks, which was really fun, but I was tired and my feet were killing me so he took me on a little driving tour and then home.

Tuesday I did almost nothing, just resting and chilling out from the day before (god I’m such a pansy!).  Erik called and as I mentioned we went for dinner and drinks, and he drove me to the falls Wed morning.  I got to Niagra around 10:30 11 and just wandered around for a bit, eventually I went Read the rest of this entry »

Island Ho

24 07 2009

Sorry I wrote this on the plane and couldn’t get online to verify where I had left off so there is a a little overlap here and there.

I dove down to Seattle and picked Casey up.  Casey in the carThe drive back was way better than the way down, having company in the car makes the drive significantly more pleasant.  We Got to the border crossing and I was a little worried about it, just because Casey is American and they can be a little weird at border crossings about things.  But driving across is a lot more mellow than flying, the guy just asked a few questions and off we went.  Although, it was kinda funny that I had no cell reception on my mom’s cell until I reached the border, and then the phone was ringing off the damn hook.  Dude looked a little cranky about it and told me no phones, I was like sorry we’re late and I had no cell reception so my sister is trying to get a hold of me.

We drove into town, stopped by the liquor store and supermarket to grab some stuff for the BBQ and as soon as we got to the house we were practically attacked by a very excited Dee and Becky.  They were super stoked to finally get to meet Casey, it was cool to finally get to introduce him to some of my people.  I always forget how Read the rest of this entry »

Why I haven’t blogged :)

25 11 2008

I’m sure you’re all wondering, and to be honest I was wondering a little myself, why I haven’t blogged at all about the past few weeks.

While while I was in the states, honestly I just didn’t have all that much time online. When I was online I was busy playing with my email, etc. I just wasn’t feeling the writing in the blog… too bad I had some fun stories. And I think I’ll make a point to tell some of them soon.

Since all of you have seemingly given up on my actually blogging about my trip, understandably so, I’ve been getting emails and direct messages. Plus being questioned by all my friends and co-workers since I’ve gotten back. And I just now worked out what the problem is. Read the rest of this entry »

Linkedin.com FTW!!!

4 10 2008

So I joined linked in because some cool interesting dudes I know told me to.. and I thought what the heck.. can’t hurt.

Now I can’t claim that it has brought me anything on the business end…. BUT it did reconnect me with our awesome holiday friend from Boracay, Mike the firefighter/migrant worker.. he was our muscle.. since he spoke enough Tagalog to keep us from getting sold into slavery (his words!)  I’m pleased to make that re-connection Mike was a seriously funny guy and I was kinda bummed that attempts to keep in touch failed (We emailed him but his spam blockers blocked us… dang spam bots ruining shit for everyone).

In other news, I have booked and bought(almost) my ticket and am heading to the states next Sat, should be interesting.  Speaking of .. I need to pack 😉
